Math Solutions Explained: Calculate Food-to-Microorganism (F-M) Ratio
3/15/2022
The food-to-microorganism (F-M) ratio is a process control numeric value advantageous to determine the proper number of microorganisms for the biological treatment process. The solution of calculating F-M ratio uses the influent volume of wastewater into an activated sludge system (flow MGD), incoming carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD) (mg/L) concentration into the aeration tank, mixed liquor volatile suspended solids (MLVSS) concentration (mg/L), and quantity (in gallons) of the respective aeration system.

Brine Management — A Necessity, Not A Luxury
3/15/2022
Brine is everywhere: desalination plants, gas and oil drillings, energy generation plants, mines, cooling towers, food manufacturing plants, chip fabrication, and many other industries that require high volumes of water. They all generate brine as a byproduct of their processes.

Evaluating The Advantages Of Decentralized MBR Wastewater Treatment
1/4/2022
Much of the progress on wastewater effluent quality under the Clean Water Act has focused on centralized facilities in larger cities. Now, decentralized systems are expanding options for municipalities, developers, and engineers to support high-quality wastewater treatment in locales that can’t sustain conventional septic systems or make it too costly to build or access centralized wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) or water reuse facilities.
