Totally Green Enters Convention Center Market With ORCA Green Machine Purchased By Bok Center & Tuls

Totally Green, Inc., a pioneer in organic food processing systems and compostable packaging alternatives, has installed its revolutionary ORCA Green Machine™ in the main kitchens at the BOK Center and Tulsa Convention Center, which are both managed and operated by SMG, a worldwide provider of entertainment and convention venue management.

The BOK Center and Tulsa Convention Center purchased the ORCA Green Machine to establish an on-site rapid food composting solution to complement SMG-Tulsa's existing sustainability initiatives and reduce the amount of organic refuse going to landfills, which then produce harmful refuse-produced methane gas into the environment.

SMG's in-house food & beverage company, SAVOR, was responsible for adding the equipment in both venues. According to Kelly Mott, director of Food and Beverage at SMG-Tulsa: "Our recent sustainability initiatives for the 565,000-square-foot BOK Center and the 310,000-square-foot Tulsa Convention Center make a huge impact on the community. We are committed to the effort of caring for our environment by developing methods to reduce, reuse and recycle in our everyday routines."

The BOK Center ranked #9 in the United States and #27 in the world for top arena venues, as ranked by Pollstar Magazine for first quarter 2011. Last year, the BOK Center finished as the #10 arena in the US for ticket sales. It has also been nominated for Arena of the Year by Pollstar Magazine, Academy of Country Music and the International Entertainment Buyers Association.

Tulsa Convention Center is a multi-purpose venue in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With a 102,600-square-foot exhibit hall, 35 meeting rooms, an 8,900-seat arena and Oklahoma's largest ballroom, the Tulsa Convention Center contains a total of 310,000 square feet of meeting space all under one roof.

"It is very rewarding to deliver our 'green' solution to two local venues that are right in our back yard," said Rob Phillips, president of Totally Green. "We expect this new partnership with SMG to enable market penetration of the ORCA Green Machine solution to other large venues that SMG currently manages, as well as establish another vertical for our sales team."

SMG operates 98% of the publicly-owned exhibition space operated by private companies in North America. The convention and exhibition facilities currently managed by SMG include more than 10 million square feet of space. The facilities range in size from 30,000-square-foot exhibit halls, to the 1,000,000 plus square feet of Reliant Park in Houston and The National Trade Center in Toronto. More than 30 million people attended thousands of convention and exhibition events at its facilities last year. These included shows of all shapes and sizes: consumer shows, trade shows, conventions, corporate meetings, product launches and other special events.

SMG's Convention Center Division not only facilitates these events, but also helps the facilities attract more shows through its day-to-day industry relationships. SMG works closely with the Hotel Industry, Convention and Visitor Bureaus, Industry Vendors/Suppliers, as well as Labor Unions to facilitate the event and deliver the best possible environment for your convention or trade show.
