Thermoform Bottles Could Boost Milk Consumption

Source: Food Online

Food Online was broadcasting live at Process Expo 2015 in Chicago, recording podcasts with key attendees at the show. Todd Schnick, host of Food Online Voices, spoke with influential industry leaders about hot topics in food and beverage manufacturing. These podcasts address the latest in technology and processes as described by individuals who are driving developments in food safety, processing, and packaging.

In this podcast, Gail Barnes, managing partner of Personify LLC, a consultancy in sustainability, processing and packaging, discusses a recent innovation in thermoform technology for milk containers. Studies show that kids prefer and would drink more cold, flavored milk in plastic bottles. However, the cost of plastic bottles is higher than gable-top cartons. She highlights new, vertical thermoforming that allows formation of bottles made from plastic tubes, costing 30 percent to 50 percent less than current bottle prices.
