Steris Acquires Arizona Contract Sterilization Facility

Steris Corporation (Mentor, OH) has acquired the assets of DeRoyal Industries' contract sterilization facility and business located in Nogales, AZ. The business, known as Royal Sterilization Systems of Arizona, currently provides contract sterilization and microbial reduction services to producers of medical devices in the Southwestern United States and Mexico. Steris Corporation, through its Isomedix subsidiary, provides sterilization, microbial reduction, and materials modification services through a network of 15 facilities in North America to medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food safety, and industrial customers.

Steris offers gamma, ethylene oxide, and electron beam processing modalities as well as a line of cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization systems, products, and technologies.

Commenting on the acquisition, Bill Sanford, Steris' chairman, president and CEO, stated, "The acquisition of the Nogales operation from DeRoyal is another step in the implementation of Steris' strategy to broaden our services capabilities to complement our extensive systems and product offerings for infection prevention, contamination prevention, and microbial reduction."

Mr. Sanford continued, "The Nogales, Arizona facility is geographically well located between two existing Steris contract sterilization facilities in El Paso, TX and Temecula, CA. All three facilities are located near major U.S. - Mexico border crossings to best serve medical device and other industrial product manufacturers, exporters, and importers in the important and growing Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico areas. Any or all of the facilities are capable of handling non-medical imports if market demands so dictate."
