Stand-Up Pouches Elevate Pet Food Sales

Premium pet food is one category where packaging is transforming retail shelves. According to the American Pet Products Association , U.S. sales of pet foods are expected to rise 16 percent annually over the next three years from $14.4 billion to $33 billion, and the latest advances in flexible, stand-up pouch packaging are fueling much of that growth.
Brand leaders such as Blue Buffalo, Hills, and Purina currently offer products in stand-up pouches. Consumers prefer packaging that delivers value, convenience, freshness, and performance. Pouches are delivering these benefits and directly contributing to increased sales.
Responding to consumer needs, the packaging industry has resolved issues many pet-owners identified as they struggled with opening and reliably reclosing bags of pet food. Pet owners had also been encumbered with the task of transferring dry pet food into secondary containers to keep the product fresh while keeping pests −and pets − out.
