Sparta Foods to Sell Minnesota Property

Sparta Foods, Inc. has signed a purchase agreement with Glenn W. Hasse, Jr. for its former manufacturing facility located in Lakeville, MN.

"As part of our cost reduction and efficiency measures undertaken in 1995, the operations at Lakeville ceased and were consolidated with our St. Paul operations in August 1995," said A. Merrill Ayers, Sparta's vice president and chief financial officer. "We subsequently leased the Lakeville facility to a long-term tenant in1996, after determining that its long-term use was unlikely."

According to Ayers, a larger production facility is now fully operational in New Brighton, MN.

Sparta Foods produces and distributes tortillas and tortilla products to the food service and retail foods industries. The company's product line includes tortillas, tortilla chips, picante and other salsas. Sparta Foods distributes its food products to retail grocery chains, principally under the LaCanasta, Cruz, and La Campana Paradiso labels.
