Sparrow Enterprises Limited

Sparrow Enterprises Ltd. was founded in 1924 as a partnership of two gentlemen with good chocolate industry backgrounds. They named the firm for themselves, Sparrow and Meins Chocolate Co., and located their facility in Boston. For many years their clientele consisted almost exclusively of small candy manufacturers. The product line was established in dark and milk chocolate coating (couverture) plus slab liquor chocolate. They also sold small quantities of cocoa powder, usually of Dutch origin.

The heirs of the partners sold the business to Mr. John Baybutt in 1959. The latter furthered the line by adding bakery supplies, while maintaining a presence in chocolate items.

The company became sales representatives for Valrhona Chocolate Co. of France in 1989, offering a complete line of couvertures, retail bars, and gift items to candy manufacturers, pastry establishments, and specialty food stores.

In 1993, a sales arrangement was concluded with Côte d'Or Confectionery of Belgium. Sparrow offers a large variety of bars and packaged goods from this manufacturer in milk and dark configurations.

To complement their good position in domestic and imported chocolate, Sparrow now imports and/or distributes Barry/Callebaut and Schokinag products. These items are receiving a good response and it is expected that there will be strong growth in the years to come.
