Simple And Economical Solids Separation
The simplicity of the SHS and SHP Sidehill Screens make them an excellent choice static screening applications. With no motors or moving parts the Sidehill Screens let gravity do the work as effluent flows down the screening media.  The screening elements are fixed, curved, slotted, wedgewire screens oriented horizontally across the direction of flow. The screening surface is positioned at a steeply sloped angle providing an effective means of quickly stripping of liquid and allowing the solids to slide off the bottom of the screen.

These screens are used in numerous food and beverage and industrial applications such as vegetable and fruit processing, at breweries for spent grains, and pulp and paper mills, just to name a few. Sidehill screens are also an economical alternative for headworks screen for municipal primary sewage – especially in a bypass or overflow channel.

SHS Sidehill Static Screens are typically used when the solids are easily separated from the liquid and where the separated solids slide easily. Wastewater, or slurry flows by gravity into the headbox where it then overflows a distribution weir onto a steeply sloped screening surface. The liquid passes through the openings in the wedgewire to a drainage pan, while the solids slide down the surface of the screen to the discharge lip.

SHP Sidehill Pressure Screens are designed to receive pumped flows of 5 to 15 psi (0.35 to 1.0 bar) into a manifold header. The velocity of incoming material combined with the shearing action of the screen, produces a positive separation of the material. Slot feed design prevents plugging by fibrous materials, an oscillating shower applied intermittently insures the screen slots remain clean. The screen helps provide an effective stripping of liquid facilitating solids removal of particles in the 0.002–0.006 inch range, and prevents blinding or plugging of the screen openings.

JWC’s Sidehill Screens can separate solids from liquids down to 0.002” (0.05 mm) depending on the influent and requirements of the process. There are numerous options available including vapor enclosures, spray systems, alternate materials construction, as well as the ability for customization for the exact application needs.
