Article: Batch Vs. Continuous Processing

By Doug Grunder, Marion Mixers
Batch mixing provides flexibility in batch size, composition and process parameters. The trade-off for more control, however, usually results in the need for larger equipment with a higher capitalcost. On the other hand, continuous mixing typically requires volumetric or loss-in-weight feeders or pumps for each ingredient. While feeders add cost and complexity to the process, it can still be more cost-effective than batch mixing. Moreover, continuous mixers are good for processing highvolume products that remain static or unchanged.
