Sealed Air and Cryovac Complete Merger

Sealed Air Corp. (Saddle Brook, NJ) has completed the merger of the Cryovac packaging business of W.R. Grace & Co. with Sealed Air to become a leading protective and specialty packaging company.

William V. Hickey, Sealed Air's president and COO, said, "Sealed Air's operations will be centered around our three major global product lines: Food Packaging Systems, Engineered Products, and Packaging Products." The Food Packaging Systems business will be led by J. Gary Kaenzig; Engineered Products operations by Bruce A. Cruikshank; and Packaging Products operations by Robert A. Pesci.

Food Packaging Systems
Cryovac's products are used to package smoked and processed meat, fresh red meat, poultry, fish, cheese, produce, dairy and baked goods. Packaging systems include Barrier Bags with oxygen-barrier properties; controlled permeability bags; Darfresh vacuum skin packaging for trayed consumer units; Cryovac BDF barrier films for modified atmosphere packaging; Cryovac TBG bags for bone-in meat products; Cryovac case-ready systems for centrally packaged consumer unit meat products; and vertical form-fill-seal systems for hot- and cold-fill foods.

Engineered Products
Sealed Air engineered products include Instapak polyurethane foam-in-place packaging and its broad range of materials and systems. Other engineered products include Korrvu suspension and retention packaging and extruded and laminated polyethylene foam plank sold under the tradenames, CelluPlank and Stratocell.

Packaging Products
Protective Packaging Products include Bubble Wrap, AirCap and PolyCap air cellular cushioning materials; CellAire polyethylene foam; a wide range of protective and durable mailers sold under a variety of tradenames, including the widely recognized Jiffy Mailer trademark; and paper-based protective packaging materials and systems.
