FOSS NIRSystems, Inc.ss Analytics Systems are designed for seamless integration into process control strategies. The near infrared (NIR) analyzers provide measurement stability and performance for analysis of clear to opaque liquids, slurries, suspensions, and solids. The analyzers can minimize start-up time, determine exact ingredient profiles, optimize product consistency, and monitor starting materials and products directly in the process stream. Integration of the systems into existing closed-loop process control strategies can be achieved by using isolated 4-20 mA current loops, serial communications, or digital outputs.

Single point non-contact process measurements in reflectance are conducted in process with the Remote Reflectance System. The system is used where ambient light is minimal and sample temperatures are close to ambient, as in the sides of pipes, hoppers, vessels, or pneumatic conveyors. Applications include fixed-point non-contact monitoring of snack foods, baked goods, cereal, confections, and other moving product applications that have high solid matrices. The system can be calibrated for moisture, fat, protein, flavorings, spices, and other constituents to be outputted simultaneously in less than a minute for process control.

The system has a pre-dispersive design with an internal light source, illumination fiber bundle, and external detector mounted inside the sample interface. The interface is then mounted flush with the inside surface of the vessel or hopper. Applications developed on the Food and Beverage System and the Routine Food Analyzers can be transferred by our clients on-line for the same application. The same accuracy and, in most cases, improved precision is typically observed.

The analyzers require no special sample handling or reagents to dispose. Since the systems are 3A compliant, they are food safe and can be CIP without posing environmental and HACCP risks.
