QAD to Provide U.S. Sugar Corp. with ERP Software Package
Manufacturing and distribution management software company QAD has signed a sales contract with U.S. Sugar Corp. to provide its MFG/PRO software for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) at all U.S. Sugar farming and food processing sites. The fully integrated software package, available on a module by module basis, addresses the entire manufacturing spectrum from repetitive to configure-to-order.
Under the contract, U.S. Sugar will deploy MFG/PRO modules for planning, manufacturing, distribution and financials in 17 agricultural areas, two raw sugar mills and its citrus processing plant, as well as in its new cane sugar refinery near the company's Clewiston, Fla. headquarters.
The manufacturing module will regulate all manufacturing activity within the various types of production environments. The distribution module will monitor inventory balances and manage purchasing and sales order entry activities. The financial module interfaces with distribution, planning and manufacturing to report the financial implications of the company's activities.
According to Greg Ford, vice president of internal audit and analysis at U.S. Sugar, the company chose MFG/PRO because of its lower cost of implementation, faster time-to-benefit, and flexibility for tracking production costs.
MFG/PRO will be used at the new refinery, which will produce a variety of refined sugar products, to summarize production data at a high level for each product, as well as to drill down into the data to gain detail for extremely accurate cost and activity analysis.
Another factor in U.S. Sugar's decision was QAD's experience with other companies in the food processing industry including Cargill, Inc., Quaker Oats Co., Rich Products Corp., Presto Foods Products and Kraft Jacobs Suchard AG.
U.S. Sugar's MFG/PRO environment runs on PCs in a Microsoft Windows NT network linked to a Hewlett-Packard HP 9000 server. The comprehensive ERP solution is based on an open, client/server architecture. QAD corporate production and distribution are registered to the ISO 9002 standard.
