Primera Foods Acquires Minnesota Manufacturing Plant

Primera Foods Corporation, a distributor of egg products and other food ingredients, has announced that it has acquired a 105,000-sqft food manufacturing facility in Altura, MN, that has been idle since its closure by Jerome Foods in 1996.

Primera Foods is expected to invest approximately $10 million in the Altura facility and equipment to prepare the plant for production activity. ``This facility fits very well with the other acquisitions we have recently completed,'' said Rolf Rogers, vice president of sales and marketing for Primera Foods. ``The Altura location will be used to provide additional production capacity and will also serve as a site for the introduction of new technologies and processes.''

The acquisition of the Altura facility follows Primera Foods' announcement that it had purchased Minnesota-based Zumbro, Inc. and IFP, Inc. with facilities in Hayfield, New Prague and Faribault, MN. Zumbro, Inc., now called the Zumbro Food Ingredients Group, is a manufacturer of value-added food ingredients. IFP, Inc., now designated as the IFP Custom Processing Group, provides custom manufacturing solutions, including ingredient development and contract manufacturing.
