Nationally sponsored by Tyson Foods, Inc., Operation Frontline promotes a long term solution to hunger by providing parents who struggle to feed their families on a low income, the cooking, nutrition and food budgeting skills they need to make healthy and economical food choices. This Share Our Strength program unites chefs, nutritionists, and other community leaders to share their strengths by volunteering to teach Operation Frontline classes in their communities.

Each Operation Frontline class series includes six weekly two-hour sessions focusing on specific themes such as healthy snacking, smart shopping, and cooking with fruits and vegetables. During class, chefs lead participants in cooking nutritious, low-cost recipes that they have created for Operation Frontline. Participants then take the recipes and ingredients home and cook for their families. Operation Frontline classes are taught at family support centers, Head Start agencies, health clinics, and other non-profit community organizations. The classes compliment other programs offered by the agencies to their low-income clients.

Since its inception in 1993, more than 13,400 people have participated in Operation Frontline classes and an additional 26,200 have received nutrition information through nutrition fairs and events. Classes are currently running in over 90 communities in 13 states including Colorado, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and the District of Columbia.
