Ocean Nutrition Reopens Spray Dryer Portion Of Plant After Fire

Ocean Nutrition's US based micro-encapsulation plant has reopened the spray dryer portion of the facility

Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited (ONC), supplier of MEG-3 brand Omega-3 EPA/DHA food and dietary supplement ingredients, is pleased to announce that the spray dryer portion of the micro-encapsulation plant in Arcadia, Wisconsin, has reopened.

In October 2005, just a few months after production began at the Arcadia facility, a portion of the plant caught fire. The spray dryer portion of the facility, an important part of the micro-encapsulation process, was destroyed.

Ocean Nutrition acted quickly and was able to maintain production capacity through contracting out the spray-drying portion of the micro-encapsulation process to Sun-Opta. The first product, to be completely created in-house since the fire, will be exported from the Arcadia plant by the end of June.

Not only has Ocean Nutrition restored the damaged section of the plant, but during this time, they have also started construction of a new micro-encapsulation plant in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, that will double capacity in 18 months.

Ian Lucas, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at ONC, said, "Our production capabilities are now fully restored with manufacturing sites operational in Arcadia and Dartmouth." Lucas continued, "We are proud of the efforts of our people as we were able to maintain excellent service levels during this challenging period of time."
