National Business Group On Health Recognizes General Mills As One Of The Best Employers For Healthy Lifestyles

The National Business Group on Health recently honored General Mills for its commitment to workplace health and wellness programs with a Best Employers for Health Lifestyles Gold Award.

The Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards acknowledge employers that "recognize the urgent need to improve their workers' health, productivity and quality of life," according to the National Business Group on Health. The goal of the program is to serve as a catalyst to encourage all employers to take action.

Winners of the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards are honored in one of three categories: Platinum, Gold or Silver. General Mills has earned Gold Awards for four consecutive years and received a Silver Award in 2006.

The company offers a spectrum of health education and wellness programs, preventive care, and medical treatment resources. Current programs at General Mills' corporate headquarters include on-site fitness classes such as yoga and hip-hop dance, healthy cooking classes and same-day medical appointments at the company's on-site preventive health clinic.

Many of the company's manufacturing facilities now include Lifeclinic health stations, at which employees can check their blood pressure, weight and body mass index. Over time, employees can confidentially track their progress and create personalized health records to share with their doctors.

General Mills was one of 66 employers who received Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles at the Business Group's Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being Leadership Summit held in Washington, D.C.

This award comes after other recent recognition for General Mills' workplace wellness initiatives this spring, including the American Heart Association's Start! Fit-Friendly Company Platinum Award and Hennepin County's Wellness by Design Gold Award.
