Michael Foods to Acquire Hood's East Coast Dairy Plant

Michael Foods, Inc. (St Louis Park, MN) and HP Hood Inc. (Chelsea, MA) have signed an agreement in which Michael Foods will acquire control of Hood's Newington, CT, dairy plant via a multi-lease with an option to purchase.

The plant provides ultra-high temperature pasteurized dairy mixes to foodservice customers in the eastern U.S.

"This transaction will greatly expand our dairy products foodservice business in the eastern U.S. With this acquisition we will have accomplished another step in our strategy to build our Kohler Mix Specialties, Inc. subsidiary into a national dairy mix and creamer supplier," said Gregg Ostrander, CEO of Michael Foods. "With specialty dairy products in Minnesota, Texas and, now, Connecticut, we will be able to more effectively serve our foodservice customers east of the Rocky Mountains."

Michael Foods, Inc. is a food processor and distributor of egg products, refrigerated grocery products, specialty dairy products and refrigerated potato products.

HP Hood Inc. is a processor, marketer, and distributor of dairy, extended shelf life dairy, frozen deserts, citrus, non-dairy, and specialty food products.
