Lyons-Magnus Installs 2-Liter Aseptic Carton Filling System

Lyons-Magnus, a leading processor of aseptic products to the food service industry, has installed a Combibloc aseptic filling system capable of filling cartons up to 2 liters in size with high-acid, particulated, liquid foods. This first-of-its-kind, sleeve-fed, one-operator, CF 405 AF filler has a fill-speed of 5000 aseptic cartons per hour in standard 46-ounce, 64-ounce, and 2-liter formats. In addition, 405 fillers can be configured to fill 1- and 1.5-liter formats, as well as custom sizes. This is the second such system to be installed at the Lyons-Magnus plant in Fresno, Calif.

According to Lyons-Magnus President Bob Smittcamp, "We see continued, strong growth in our existing aseptic product lines, and with the expanded capabilities this new Combibloc filler brings to our Fresno operations, we're looking forward to introducing new food service products, both with and without particulates."

Combibloc 405 Filler

The food service industry has seen significant growth in aseptic packaging use in recent years. A recent study by Technomic, Inc., a food service research firm, indicates a preference among food service operators for the easy-open, space-efficient aseptic package over cans. Food service workers report that they like the fact that aseptic cartons have no sharp edges and do not require can openers, which translates to fewer workplace injuries and lower related costs.

Lyons-Magnus produces a wide range of products for food service operators, including fountain syrups and toppings, juices and beverages, fruit fillings, preserves, jellies, and breakfast syrups. A high percentage of these products are packed in aseptic cartons, including single strength juice, thickened juices and beverages, juice concentrates, and fountain and breakfast syrups.
