Lab-Size Pilot Plant

The APV Heat Transfer pilot plant shown is a lab-size, multi-purpose system designed to process 1/2 GPM of products ranging from single-strength juices and drinks to more viscous products such as baby foods with particulates. This pilot plant contains a variety of heat transfer methods and allows the customer to choose, on a product-by-product basis, the method they will utilize. The heat transfer components used for heating the product are: a plate heat exchanger for low viscosity products; a scraped surface heat exchanger for products with high viscosity or large particulates, and steam injection for products requiring rapid heat treatment. A plate heat exchanger, tubular heat exchanger, or a flash vessel can then be used to cool the product when necessary. The self-contained system includes all utility hook-ups and features quick disconnects to allow for easy utility hook-up and disconnection. The system is completely portable, with each skid being on wheels to allow easy movement to a storage area when not in use.
