Horizon Organic Dairy Acquires Juniper Valley Farms Brand
Horizon Organic Dairy, (Boulder, CO) has acquired the Juniper Valley Farms brand of organic milk and other organic products.
"The acquisition of Juniper Valley makes Horizon the leader in New York - the largest organic milk market in the country," said Barney Feinblum, president and CEO of Horizon Organic Dairy. "For consumers, the combination of our two companies will permit us to better serve the region by tapping local New York fresh organic milk supplies and combining them with existing Horizon supplies to provide more efficient utilization and distribution of organic milk."
Juniper Valley began processing organic milk in 1995. Its local sources include three farmer co-ops and seven independent farmers. Juniper Valley's products are packed at Mountainside Farms in Roxbury, NY, in the Catskill Mountains and at a facility near Buffalo, NY. Its main distribution facility is in Jamaica, Queens. These three facilities, plus Horizon's new organic farm in Maryland, will provide broader availability of organic milk to New York and other East Coast markets.
"With Horizon Organic's distribution systems, Juniper Valley will have much greater access to the national markets for its products," said Cyrus Schwartz, president and CEO of Juniper Valley. "Additionally, Juniper Valley will leverage its strong New York-area distribution system to expand the availability of the Horizon Organic Dairy line of products - including cheese and cream cheese, cottage cheese, butter and yogurt - in the area."
Horizon Organic Dairy owns and operates the country's largest organic dairy farm, a 4000-acre facility near Twin Falls, ID. Beginning with organic fat free yogurt, Horizon now offers 39 organic dairy products.
