Homogenization With Silverson High Shear Mixers

Source: Silverson Machines, Inc.

Homogenization is the process of making a product completely uniform in terms of particle or globule size.

Products need to be homogeneous for a variety of reasons: they look better; they have a better texture when you eat them or rub them on your skin; they will remain stable – and therefore have a longer shelf life.

Silverson Mixer/Homogenizers can achieve a globule or droplet size in the range of 2 – 5 microns which is sufficient for the vast majority of products including creams, ointments, sauces and pharmaceutical suspensions.

Where sub-micron particle size is required a High Pressure Homogenizer would be needed, however a Silverson Mixer/Homogenizer can help to improve the throughput by producing a uniform premix that will allow the high pressure homogenizer to operate more efficiently, reducing process time and costs.
