General Mills Elects Raymond V. Gilmartin to Board

Raymond V. Gilmartin, chairman, president and CEO of Merck & Co., has been elected to the board of directors of General Mills, Inc.

Gilmartin, 56, joined Merck as president and CEO in June 1994, after a career with medical products manufacturer Becton-Dickinson & Company. He was elected chairman of Merck in November 1994.

Merck is an international research-based pharmaceutical company that has discovered and developed products to treat a variety of cardiovascular diseases and conditions, osteoporosis, AIDS and HIV disease, and a wide variety of vaccines to prevent disease.

The addition of Gilmartin expands the General Mills board to 13 members, and increases to 10 the number of outside directors.
