First Patented Fat-Free French Fry Now Available

Kansas City entrepreneur Candace Vanice has developed a guilt-free French fry. The 8th Wonder Fat Free Fries, which contain zero fat and zero Olestra, are now available in the potato section of most grocer's freezers.

Vanice created the fries while she was a student at The University of Kansas. "I spent more than two years trying different recipes and doing taste tests and finally came up with a formula for fat-free French fries that tastes as good as regular French fries and allows people to eat something healthy," says Vanice.

The secret of 8th Wonder Fat Free Fries is a patented coating made from all natural ingredients, no preservatives and seasonings that gives each fry the flavor and crispy appeal of regular fries. 8th Wonder Fat Free Fries meet the American Heart Association food criteria for saturated fat and cholesterol for healthy people over age 2.

"Most people don't realize that the potatoes themselves don't contain fat, " said Vanice. "Our special coating brings out the flavor of the potato without adding the unwanted fat."

Made with Yukon Gold premium potatoes, the fries are cholesterol-free, fat-free, have just 70 calories per serving, and take just half an hour to bake.

8th Wonder Fat Free Fries are the first patented frozen French fry product on the market that is completely fat-free. The fries are currently sold in nearly 1,400 supermarkets and will be available nationwide by the end of 1999.

Vanice, now just 26 years old, already plans to expand the 8th Wonder line to include other favorite "comfort foods" that people never thought could be fat-free.
