Esko Presents Design Life-Cycle Management Solution To Streamline Package Design
New York - Officials from Esko, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), Adobe Systems, and Gencia were on hand recently at CSC headquarters to demonstrate Esko's Design Life-Cycle Management solution to key customers and major packaging, personal care, and food & beverage media in the Northeast United States.
Esko provides its Design Life-Cycle Management software and hardware solution to manage the collaboration, communication, and execution of packaging from ideation through delivery. It features design tools that remove workflow inefficiencies, enabling all stakeholders in the package design process to devote more time to develop compelling packaging concepts.
CSC provides Product Lifecycle Management development infrastructure under which Esko's Design Life-Cycle Management resides. Adobe technology is integrated within Esko's Design Life-Cycle Management software to streamline the process between structural and graphic design. Gencia enables fast turnaround of prototypes, shortening approvals and allowing brand managers and designers to see accurate samples.
"Our goal in showing Design Life-Cycle Management in action is to clearly illustrate that it efficiently handles every part of the package design development process for consumer products companies (CPCs) and private-label retailers," says Esko's Mark Vanover, director of marketing for the company's North American operations. "Design Life-Cycle Management not only saves time and money, it also enables companies to innovate—and innovation is the number-one competitive advantage in today's ultra-competitive marketplace."
Part of a PLM Solution
Esko's Design Life-Cycle Management solution is designed to be part of a company's broader Product Life-Cycle Management (PLM) solution.
"That's where we come in," states CSC Partner George Murchio. "We help companies leverage the power of their brands by building enterprise-wide solutions that help them create competitive new products – from concept all the way through to manufacturing."
"Esko's Design Life-Cycle Management offering provides a best-in-class, Web-networked solution that can be fully integrated into other key components of PLM. Properly implemented, this promises to offer huge benefits to our clients," Murchio says.
Key tools in the Design Life-Cycle Management solution are based around Esko's Scope workflow products. Components of Scope include DeskPack, BackStage, PackEdge, WebCenter, and ArtiosCAD, the most powerful structural package design application on the market today.
Adobe Illustrator Integration
"ArtiosCAD works seamlessly with Adobe Illustrator, a powerful and versatile tool to quickly produce flexible graphics," said Robin Tobin, Senior Manager, Print Industry Marketing at Adobe. "Data can be preserved and shared between Illustrator and ArtiosCAD, which enables graphic designers and structural designers to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow with one another."
Additionally, Scope's ArtiosCAD features two Illustrator plug-ins designed to import native ArtiosCAD files into Illustrator, maintain ArtiosCAD layers and information, preserve CAD data within Illustrator, and export graphic information directly into ArtiosCAD.
Customizable to meet clients' specific needs, all Scope solutions are modularly-based, allowing easy upgrades and additions over time as client needs change and evolve.
Quick Prototyping
Gencia has launched the latest Gs2 and Creator systems to enable designers to create prototypes in minutes rather than hours, a key Design Life-Cycle Management component.
The Gs2 system images carton board, corrugated and flexible packaging – cartons can be ‘printed' on the correct board; not paper that is spray-mounted to board. Specially developed inks, transfer paper and receptive coatings ensure high quality digital print. Systems are available with working areas from 23.5" x 16.5" for most cartons up to 96" x 48" for point of sale corrugated.
"Brand owners need faster time to market for more and more products. Gencia's Gs2 and Creator systems deliver high quality printed carton prototypes, samples or very short run output. Clients include P&G, Kraft, Nestlé and Unilever as well as design agencies and carton printers," said Brian Blundell, CEO of Gencia.
