Dry ESFR Sprinkler Breaks New Ground In Cold Storage Fire Protection

ASDF

Hastings, MI - Viking, a global leader in fire protection products and services, has introduced an innovative fire sprinkler that combines dry sprinkler technology with the fire suppression benefits of an ESFR (Early Suppression Fast Response) sprinkler. The new VK501 dry ESFR pendent sprinkler is a leap forward in fire protection technology for freezer and cold storage environments. By enabling a suppression sprinkler to be installed on a wet pipe system, the new sprinkler may eliminate the need for a preaction system in certain cold storage applications.

The patent-pending VK501 sprinkler, which is cULus listed for use with wet systems, is listed to protect the same commodities and storage arrangements as Viking's standard K14 ESFR pendent sprinkler. Used to protect a cold storage area within a structure, the dry ESFR sprinkler is supplied from a wet system installed in a heated space. In this scenario, the VK501 eliminates the need for a preaction system and in-rack sprinklers.

Viking's new dry ESFR sprinkler has a K factor of 14.0 (202). To ensure a precise K factor, the sprinkler is offered in a single length of 36 in (0,9 m). The 165°F (74°C) sprinkler is available standard with a 2 inch (50 mm) grooved connection. A 1-½ inch (40 mm) threaded version is also available.

Each dry ESFR sprinkler is shipped with two insulating boot assemblies, which help seal the clearance space around the dry sprinkler's barrel. When properly installed above and below the ceiling penetration, the insulating boots decrease the potential for condensation and ice to build-up around the sprinkler.
