Dow Chemical Acquires Courtaulds' CELACOL Brand Cellulose Ethers

The Dow Chemical Company (Midland, Mich.) has purchased the CELACOL range of water soluble polymers from Courtaulds Chemicals (Holdings) Limited. Transfer begins immediately and is expected to be completed over the next few months. Dow plans to shift production from Courtaulds' UK based facility to its METHOCEL cellulose ether facility in Stade, Germany.

Water soluble polymers offer a combination of properties for bakery products, frying batters, sauces, whipped toppings and other foods. Not only are they thickeners, binders, suspending agents and emulsion stabilizers, they also improve moisture retention, contribute freeze/thaw stability, and reduce oil absorption.

The Dow Chemical Company is the world's largest manufacturer and supplier of methyl cellulose and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose with two production facilities in North America and one in Europe.
