Decrease Downtime With New Model CC Head Options

Urschel Laboratories, Inc. has continued to develop new Double Ring Cutting Head styles over the last two years for its Model CC Slicer. This machine has been the leading potato slicer sold worldwide since its introduction in 1959. The new Double Ring Head design features locking or non-locking base rings and offers either single or double adjustments. These heads are available with new Model CC Slicers and installed Model CC Slicers in the field can be adapted to reap the benefits of these new developments.

Downtime is significantly reduced using the locking base ring that delivers faster changeovers of cutting heads and impedes costly impeller to head collisions. The locking base ring involves a smoother, tool-less changeover of cutting heads through simply rotating, unlocking, and replacing one head with another. Also, since the head is locked down firmly in position, the occasional instance whereby the force of unbalanced product could potentially dislodge the non-locking cutting head is eliminated. Customers can easily retrofit existing single adjustment heads by simply replacing two shoes, adding the locking bottom ring, and replacing the cutting head support with a locking cutting head support. Customers can also easily retrofit existing double adjustment heads by simply changing the cutting head support to a locking cutting head support.

Double Ring Heads are now available in either stainless steel or manganese aluminum bronze in flat, crinkle, v-slice, and various shredding configurations. The improved design of the Double Ring Heads featuring either single or double adjustments increases slice accuracy over time when compared to the original single ring head design and reduces downtime associated with routine knife replacement and knife alignment. Patented Double Adjustment/Double Ring Heads feature shoes, housing the knife/knife holder, which are adjustable at both the upper and lower support rings, whereas, Single Adjustment/Double Ring Heads offer similar features with the exception of offering adjustment of the upper support ring only.

Dual support rings, combined with adjustment screws located on both rings, promote consistent slice thickness so downtime for readjustment due to the natural, constant motion involved in a production line is greatly diminished. When a torque wrench is used to change knives on the new head, the gap setting is maintained for the replacement knives, assuring uniform slice thickness. To further improve slice accuracy, and minimize downtime associated with knife replacement and knife adjustment, Urschel presents a Dual Slice Thickness Setting Gauge for use with its Double Ring Slicing heads and other cutting heads. The gauge simultaneously measures top and bottom gap settings to assure consistent slice thickness.

The Model CC Slicer is a centrifugal type slicer. Product enters the rotating impeller and is held by centrifugal force against the inner surface of the cutting head, which consists of eight individual cutting stations. A slice is produced as product passes each knife in a smooth and uninterrupted manner.

The versatile Model CC uniformly slices, strip cuts, shreds, and granulates a wide variety of products at high production capabilities. With interchangeable cutting heads that enable processors to change the type of cut in just seconds, the Model CC minimizes downtime and increases production efficiency. Specially designed throwaway knives do not require sharpening and are inexpensive to replace. The Model CC features continuous operation for uninterrupted production, simplified design for easy cleanup and maintenance and production proven dependability.
