White Paper: Cleaning Study Of A 155 CF APE Ribbon Blender Dry Spice Cleaning

Source: MORK Process, Inc.

The cleaning study took place in order to demonstrate the use of a MORK CIP Unit for automated cleaning of spice residues from an actual blending campaign.

The Ribbon Blender for testing was a 155 CF American Process Equipment (APE) mixer with a single discharge valve.

Prior to cleaning, the material resembled a powdery deposit, evenly distributed all over the blender, but a higher concentration on the ribbon flights. Approximately 5 Kg of product remained in the blender as a loose powder. Areas of the blender where shear stresses were high (ribbon blades and lower section of the blending shell), had a residue that firmly adhered to the stainless steel surfaces.

The objective of the trial was to remove all deposits and bonded material without manual intervention in a time period which is considerably shorter than current manual cleaning methods and less overall water usage.
