Chobani Distribution Expansion

Exportation of its products using temperature-controlled shipments are key to reaching emerging Asian and Latin markets

Chobani, is taking its product international and in a big way. The company already has the best-selling Greek yogurt in the U.S. and now has its sights on reaching consumers in Singapore, Malaysia, and Panama. Chobani intends to distribute multiple flavors and formats of its product to these markets. The company will export single-serve cups of plain, blood orange, blueberry, honey, mango, raspberry, passion fruit, and strawberry, as well as multi-serve containers of plain yogurt.

So, one has to ask, “Can Chobani meet supply chain expectations with a product that has a short shelf-life and must travel a longer distance to reach consumers in the Asian and Latin American markets?”  In short, yes it can.

It was just 16 months ago that Chobani opened its $30 million factory in South Victoria, Australia as the company acted on its strategy to enter the Aussie market.  Production from this plant has increased from 25,000 cases a week to nearly 25,000 cases of yogurt produced per day. It’s this volume and general geographic region that will allow Chobani to extend its reach to the Asian market.  The yogurt manufacturer will ship its products using temperature-controlled shipments from the company’s manufacturing facility in Australia to consumers in the Pacific.

"Asia and Latin America have untold possibility for Chobani and our expansion in these regions furthers our business opportunities and builds on our founding mission to provide better food for more people," says Chobani president and chief operating officers David Denholm. "We've had tremendous success in the U.S. and Australia and we'll be using our manufacturing hubs to expand our global presence and reach new consumers."

To satisfy the Latin American market, Chobani will export multiple flavors and formats via quality and temperature-controlled shipments as well.  However, shipments for Latin America will originate from the company’s New Berlin, NY and Twin Falls, ID facilities.  Chobani has been available in Panama for the last few weeks and will soon be available throughout the Caribbean.
