Atalanta Acquires J.F. Braun & Sons

Atalanta Corporation (Elizabeth, NJ) has purchased J.F. Braun & Sons (Westbury, NY) from ConAgra Inc. The deal marks Atalanta's entry into the nut and dried fruit market.

``The purchase of J.F. Braun & Sons is the second ConAgra purchase in three months and is one more very important step in our strategic expansion plan. It further demonstrates our commitment to provide resources and services our customers demand,'' said Atalanta president and CEO, George Gellert.

``Atalanta's acquisition of J.F. Braun & Sons is a great opportunity for J.F. Braun to expand its dominance in the edible nut and dried fruit market. Braun has been the leading supplier to the confectionery, baking and snack food industry for 40 years. Together, we can leverage our combined domestic and international presence to move into new markets,'' said Gerald Vogel, president of J.F. Braun & Sons.

J.F. Braun & Sons is a leading importer and wholesaler of shelled nuts, dried fruits, seeds and cocoa powder for the U.S. domestic market and Canada.

Atalanta Corporation's core business includes processed meats, seafood, grocery, and cheese. It services the institutional, wholesale, foodservice and retail trade.
