Modifications will boost efficiency at a lowered cost and accommodate a wider range of products

Air Logic Power Systems (ALPS) — a leader in designing and manufacturing leak testing equipment for the packaging industry — has unveiled updates to two of its base-model leak testing machines in the last year. The SS Linear single-station leak tester and the Speed-Glider line received upgrades that subsequently reduced their cost by nearly 30 percent.

The new version of the SS Linear (being called SC Linear) features a separate enclosure fitted with a swing arm that allows for easier positioning of the product.  The SC Linear, introduced at the Pack Expo 2013 in Las Vegas, also standardized their conveyer chain to 4.5” (114mm).  Previous versions had either a three inch or six inch chain length. The fallen bottle ejector also become integrated within the control system, making it a simpler procedure and even comes equipped with an optional Ethernet connection. The control system is a user-friendly, full-color touch screen that requires no expert skill to use.

The 2.5 edition of the Speed-Glider line offers a lowered price tag while also being more sustainable. The updated version produces a carbon footprint 25 percent smaller than its predecessor, the 2.0 edition. The Speed-Glider line specializes in checking for leaks in bottles and is capable of up to 150 Containers-per-minute (9,000 CPH). It is also capable of testing containers that are up to 5 inches in length for square containers and 6.25 inches for round ones. The Container Pitch (distance between test heads on the machine) comes in at seven inches. The updated Timing Screw handling system makes the system more efficient by quickening the changeover time between tested containers.

The Speed-Glider 3.85 is a line extension of the 2.5 system, just for larger container sizes. The Speed-Glider 3.85 line extension has a Container Pitch of 10.5 inches and is capable of testing container lengths of up to 8.5 inches. Both systems can be easily retrofitted to existing conveyer lines, usually eliminating the need for any additional conveyers or transfers.
