Packaging Machine Language Boosts Performance

METTLER TOLEDO joins the Organization for Machine Automation and Control (OMAC) and is committed to producing PackML-enabled equipment. PackML, Packaging Machine Language, and related calculations enable production line performance improvements.

METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection Division will participate in OMAC’s Packaging Workgroup (OPW). METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection is a leader in providing checkweighing, metal detection, X-ray inspection and machine vision inspection technologies worldwide for food and pharmaceutical manufacturers and packagers and industrial manufacturers.

METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection provides PackML capability, an OMAC-developed method that provides a common method of communicating machine-state information for all forms of packaging equipment, on all four types of its product inspection equipment. It began applying PackML in 2006, shortly after the standard was defined by OMAC, and is recognized by OMAC members as an industry leader in PackML implementation and other areas important to OMAC.

OMAC was formed to allow manufacturers and users to share best practices, and to find innovative ways to be successful in their production operations.

OMAC includes industry leaders in control products, machinery OEMs, and producers of consumer product goods, food manufacturers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Notable end users of OMAC commnication standards include Nestle, Procter and Gamble, Pepsico, Rockwell, Siemens, GE, B&R, and Schneider Electric.

OMAC’s OPW group is currently working to develop further packaging industry standards for safety communication, information presentation on user interfaces, signaling methods, and equipment specifications.
