SafetyChain Software’s VP of Marketing, Jill Bender, discusses with the Acheson Group’s Dr. David Acheson the FDA’s recently released FSMA guidance document and what it is telling the food industry.

Jill: Welcome to FSMA Fridays. My name is Jill Bender with SafetyChain Software and I look forward to an interesting topic today: what the FDA’s FSMA guidance document is telling us. It’ll be interesting, especially given that we are past our first compliance date that we’ve been talking about in hosting these sessions for literally years now. It’s some exciting information sure to come in the coming months. I am delighted to have Dr. David Acheson on the call with us today. Good morning, David.

David: Good morning, Jill.

Jill: Let’s go ahead and get started. What’s the latest in the past month that’s happened on the FSMA front?

David: Well, a couple of things. I think the first thing I’ll just mention is, obviously we are past D-Day, deadline. Mid-September has come and gone and we’re in October. It kind of came in with the wind for a little bit. I’ve heard not a word from anybody to say, “Oh, the FDA showed up at my facility and beat the heck out of me, because my food safety plan wasn’t good enough.” Frankly, if that has happened to anybody and had they had their food safety plan looked at, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s share experiences. I think that’s part of where FSMA Friday can go in the next coming months, as we move forward. Let’s learn and share what’s going on. That’s on that point.
