On the last Friday of every month, SafetyChain, a leading provider of food safety and quality assurance automation and compliance solutions, hosts FSMA Fridays™, the leading online forum for the food and beverage community to learn the latest information about the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Featuring Dr. David Acheson, the popular monthly interactive pod/webcast is sponsored by SafetyChain Software and The Acheson Group.

Barbara: Good day, everyone, and welcome to FSMA Fridays. Our topic today is the top 5 FSMA challenges and what you should be doing now to prepare. We will start with our pre-submitted questions and then move on to questions from our live audience.

As always, we’re really excited to welcome our FSMA Friday team. We have with us today Dr. David Atchison and Melanie Newman from the Acheson Group who are joining us from Taiwan where it’s one o’clock in the morning. So, really, thank you very much for joining, welcome David and Melanie.

We’re going to start with you, David, before we get into today’s topic. Perhaps you can tell us the latest and the greatest of what the FDA’s been up to.

David Acheson, Founder and CEO of The Acheson Group: The short answer is, not much in relation to FSMA. As we said, I think, on the last FSMA Friday, Barbara, I think the FDA’s got their heads down looking at comments and preparing to launch on August 31 for our first round of preventive control rules. I will, however, comment that others are pretty active in the food-safety space, and just a brief comment and I’m sure many of those who are on the call have seen this, but a bill was released, I think just yesterday that came from Rosa DeLauro and Dick Durban proposing a single, food-safety agency. I haven’t read it yet, it’s 80 pages long and it’s not exactly FSMA Friday directly related. However, if that were to go through, it sure as anything would impact FSMA.
