Check out Part One, Part Two, and Part Three of this series

In the third portion of FSMA Fridays: Risk Assessment Best Practices And Implementing Preventive Controls, Levin and the Acheson Group panel discussed how companies can enhance their current risk-assessment or hazard-analysis programs to make them HARPC compliant. They also addressed the issue of FSMA deadlines related to risk assessment as well as questions from the webinar’s live audience. Here, in the fourth and final portion on the topic, the panel continues to address questions from the live audience.

Barbara: David, Kathy is asking, “Related to HACCP analysis versus HARPC analysis systems, has anyone in the industry or within regulatory bodies provided tools or templates to assist with those evaluations?”

David: Yes, and guess what? The Acheson Group (TAG) has a tool that does that. One of the service offerings that we provide through our business is going from HACCP to HARPC. Yes, there are tools out there to help food companies migrate from the one to the other. I haven’t seen a lot of other tools out there, but they do exist.

I’ve not seen anything come out of the FDA yet around this. They have been working since last year, or the year before, on guidance documents that will, I think, provide some guidance, per se, for food companies with regard to compliance with preventive control rules. But, I don’t know where those are in terms of their evolution or when they’ll get published. But, hopefully, they’ll come out at the same time that the final rules come out.
