Food For Thought: The FDA Gets Serious On Electronic Records Management

The importance of America's fight against terrorism was clear in the FDA's December 2004 issuance of regulations on the establishment and maintenance of records for food "nontransporters" and "transporters" under the authority of the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness Act of 2002.
At their heart, the regulations require companies to establish and maintain the records that will allow the agency to identify the immediate previous sources and subsequent recipients of food, including its packaging, when the agency has a "reasonable belief that an article of food is adulterated and presents a threat of serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals."
