Thermo Fisher Scientific To Demonstrate Multi-Frequency Metal Detection Technology At PACK EXPO Conference 2018

Food manufacturers can see the latest inspection and detection innovations, including the Thermo Scientific Sentinel multiscan metal detector

Food manufacturers attending PACK EXPO International 2018 can experience the benefits of an advanced multi-frequency metal detection technology called multiscan, designed to provide improved sensitivity and increased probability of detection compared to previous technologies from Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Thermo Scientific Sentinel multiscan metal detector will be in action at the Thermo Fisher booth and the topic of an Innovation Stage presentation.

The Sentinel metal detector’s multiscan technology platform, a first-of-its-kind metal detection technology that uses five simultaneous frequencies, can detect contaminants up to 50 percent smaller in volume than previous instruments, including the Thermo Scientific APEX 500 metal detector. The Sentinel metal detector will be among the latest inspection, detection and checkweighing systems on display within Thermo Fisher’s booth (N-5706) in the North Hall during PACK EXPO International, October 14-17, at McCormick Place, Chicago. Bob Ries, lead product manager, metal detection and X-ray inspection for Thermo Fisher, will lead an Innovation Stage presentation (booth N-4585) on Tuesday, October 16, at 3 p.m., demonstrating how multiscan delivers improved sensitivity and probability of detection.

“The recent introduction of multiscan technology marked an important breakthrough in multi-frequency metal detection innovation for the food packaging industry,” Ries said. “For decades, food manufacturers compromised by using single-frequency or dual-frequency metal detectors. Multiscan is the equivalent of running five metal detectors in a row, all scanning for different metal contaminants, raising the probability of finding metal objects and keeping consumers safer than they could before.”

In addition to the Sentinel metal detector, which will be making its PACK EXPO International debut, Thermo Fisher will showcase solutions for a range of product inspection challenges at PACK EXPO International, including:

  • The Thermo Scientific NextGuard X-ray detection system, which offers advanced capabilities for finding metallic and non-metallic foreign objects. The NextGuard system uses a non-linear detector designed to improve detection of dense and sharp objects.
  • The Thermo Scientific Versa Flex checkweigher, which provides accurate and reliable checkweighing capabilities for a wide range of packaged food, pharmaceutical and personal care products in dry applications.
  • The Thermo Scientific Versa 8120 chain checkweigher, which provides high-speed weighing, control and reject functions for cartons, cans, bottles and rigid packages. The Versa 8120 chain checkweigher offers a rugged chain design for easy cleaning and maintenance.
