Spiroflow Systems Offers Innovative Hoist Bulk Bag Discharger

Charlotte, NC - Spiroflow Systems, Inc. offers an innovative "Hoist Design" Bulk Bag Discharger for unloading bulk bags without the need of a forklift truck.

Spiroflow's Type 6 Bulk Bag Discharger (BBD) is used for unloading powder or granular product material into various processing equipment such as mixers, sifters and mills as well as packing equipment. Transfer from the BBD to process or packing can be direct or by one or more Spiroflow conveyors including flexible screw, vacuum, pneumatic, and aero-mechanical conveyors.

Each Type 6 BBD is tailored to suit individual customer specifications and is available in carbon steel and 304 stainless steel options. The Type 6 unit is designed to allow one operator to control a standard 1-ton hoist which positions the bulk bag into the discharger. The hoist runs along a fully load tested integral "I" lifting beam.

The Discharger boasts innovative bag tensioning supports that compensate for the capacity/weight of the bag and stretches it to ensure total discharge. Pneumatic side and/or base massage paddles are available, when appropriate, to promote the flow of sticky, cohesive or otherwise difficult products.

Each discharger has a dust tight material collection hopper with an integral locking access door and viewing port. The door is amply sized to enable the operator to untie/re-tie the bag spout and liner.

Multiple Transfer Options
Transfer solutions available from Spiroflow Systems includes Flexible Screw and Aero Mechanical Conveyors as well as Pneumatic and Vacuum Conveyor Systems. The conveyors offer solutions for both metered feed and mass flow conveying requirements.

In some cases, customers may require multiple transfer solutions for their Bulk Bag Discharging. In these cases, Spiroflow offers mobile conveyors that connect to the BBD. For example, a recent project required two feed options; one to deliver product at a metered feed rate and the other to deliver product en masse. Spiroflow's mobile Flexible Screw Conveyor and Vacuum Conveyor was used to meet the requirement. The conveyors consisted of a mobile base, inlet hopper and conveyor quickly and easily connected to the Type 6 BBD that discharged a variety of products to a packaging machine with two feed points. (See Photo). Only one feed point could be in operation at any time. Either way, product fed to the packing head had to have a consistent flowability and had to be de-aerated within specified tolerances.

Optional Equipment
Other optional equipment available for the Type 6 BBD includes loss-in-weight load cells bag neck pinch bars and pinch bars. Loss-in-weight cells enable discharging batch weights of product from the bulk bag as required. Bag neck pinch bars allow flow from the bag to be controlled with the access doors closed – an essential option to protect the operator and the environment from dusty hazardous materials. Pinch bars are ideal where partly used bags need to be removed so that bags containing other ingredients can be installed into the discharger.
