Metal And X-Ray Detectable Plastic Additives For Food Manufacturing

Source: Eriez

Eriez' PolyMag® additives impart Metal Detectability, X-Ray Contrast and Magnetic Susceptibility into plastic moldings to prevent plastic contaminated food products from reaching the consumer.

Eriez provides PolyMag® additives in a non-dusting pellet, allowing molders and extruders to produce Metal Detectable and X-Ray Visible plastic parts for food contact applications. Molders can satisfy varying levels of detectability at a cost substantially less than specialty compounds. This eliminates the need to buy minimum quantities of special resins and carry excess material inventory.

Major restaurant chains insist that food processors utilize plastic and rubber articles that are Metal and X-Ray Detectable. This has become part of many company's HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) programs.

Eriez Magnetics' FDA compliant, PolyMag® additives impart Metal Detectability, X-Ray Contrast and Magnetic Separation into a range of polymers. We supply these masterbatch additives to molders of returnable plastic containers, pallets, scoops, scrappers, o-rings, conveyor belting, bucket elevators and more. PolyMag® additives are typically included at 10% to 20% loadings in moldings and extrusions.

Resins containing the PolyMag® Gray HSCP can be pigmented darker colors like blue, gray, green, red and purple. The lower cost PolyMag Black HSCP is suitable for black applications.

PolyMag® Beige XRD is preferred for applications that require a high level of X-Ray contrast.  Molders can include both the PolyMag® HSCP and XRD masterbatch additives to impart Metal Detectability and X-Ray contrast in plastic parts.

The FDA has offered a favorable opinion of the PolyMag additives per CTS 75807. We also provide PolyMag powders for special compounding needs or for use in foam, thermoset rubber and liquid raw materials.

As a leading manufacturer of Metal Detector systems, Eriez can assist you with the level of detectability and X-Ray contrast required by different food processing applications and we can provide an analysis of your product’s inspection signature.
