Case Study: Liquiphant M Used For Empty Pipe Detection In Jelly Production

Source: Endress+Hauser, Inc.
ScrnShot

Liquiphant M is used for empty pipe detection in a jelly production plant to protect pumps from running dry. The advantage of using a Liquiphant M in this application is the quick response time compared to pressure switches, plus the Liquiphant is designed for hygienic processes.

The Liquiphant M is used for empty pipe detection to protect the pump seals and thus reduce downtime of the plant. If the Liquiphant was not installed, and the pump continues to run without product in the line, the seals are damaged. Consequently, if the pump is damaged, there is associated down time and additional costs for repairing or reconditioning the pump. Typical repairs can cost from $1500 to $2000, or up to $4500 for a new pump. With a Liquiphant that can be purchased for approximately $400, these costs can be avoided.
