In this system, a semi-closed reactor charging system addresses the ergonomic and contamination issues that compromise employee safety during the reactor charging process. With a large, open manway on a reactor, foreign matter is more likely to enter the reactor during the process, compromising the contents and the product quality.
There are also containment concerns when a product is being openly dispensed into an open manway. The closed charging system includes the drum manipulator, a ventilated funnel (similar to the functionality of the ventilation sleeve), and a Canty Quick-View Port (PDF), manufactured by JM Canty.
This operator-friendly system helps maintain a closed manway throughout the majority of the charging process.
The ventilated funnel fits tightly into the Quick-Port opening with an o-ring type seal. The funnel is equipped with a tri-clamp ferrule on its top-receiving portion where the discharging drum liner is fastened. The discharging liner remains tied until the opening at the end of the liner neck is attached to the funnel. This allows for a closed transfer process.
A recessed ventilated perimeter provides 360 degrees of dust collection for the disconnection of the drum liner from the funnel, after the charge is complete.
