In Part One of FSMA Fridays: FSMA Compliance Implementation Challenges And Guidance, The Acheson Group’s Dr. Peyman Fatemi and Christopher Snabes joined SafetyChain’s Jill Bender to discuss the challenges of implementing FSMA and offer guidance to overcome them. Here, in Part Two of the series, the trio will continue the conversation by addressing supply chain controls and FSMA’s relation to GFSI-certified food safety schemes.

Jill: Peyman, back to you. What can you tell us about supply chain controls?

Peyman: I’d like to add just what we’re doing in this discussion. For many of the previous FSMA Fridays, the topic’s been somewhat specific around whether it was supply chain control and environmental monitoring provisions on the preventive controls rules. In this case, now that the industry’s beginning to implement these rules and talking about what are the challenges that they’re facing, what are we seeing out there? It’s really a timely topic, because now it’s becoming reality for a lot of folks, and they’re looking at their supply chain program, whether it’s the foreign supplier program or a domestic program, and trying to assess where is the risk coming from? What is the risk, and where is it coming from, and who’s controlling it?
