Presentation Given During Recent Pack Expo Conference In Las Vegas 2011 Non-Destructive Package Test

Oliver Stauffer of PTI Inspection Systems gave a presentation last week during Pack Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada on "The Importance of Non-Destructive Testing" during the Pack Expo Conference Sessions, sponsored by the IOPP (Institute of Packaging Professionals).

His presentation addressed the advantages and benefits of implementing a non-destructive inspection method, and focused specifically on the issues of cost, test method (subjectivity vs. hard data), sampling, and market trends in the pharmaceutical, food and medical device industries. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the challenges and latest technology solutions that exist for cost savings and increased efficiency.

Highlights from the presentation include:

  • Use of non-destructive methods to increase testing rate and allow for repeatability of tests
  • Avoid subjective methods. They offer little information, and although visual methods may imply physical defect, they are loosely related.
  • Package inspection is a science, and quantitative measurement should be used at all times.
