K-Tron Smart Force Transducer III Enhances Weighing Performance In Process Feeding

K-Tron has incorporated its latest digital weighing technology, the Smart Force Transducer III (SFT III), into select gravimetric feeding and metering equipment. With a mechanical package specifically designed and optimized for duty in process applications involving single-point weighing, the SFT III is standard in the company's SWB300 and SWB600 Smart Weigh Belt feeders, K4G Gravimetric Blender, and SFM350 and SFM 275A Smart Flow Meters. Other K-Tron gravimetric feeders employ multi-point weighing or a scale and use the SFT II sensor.

The SFT III's single vibrating wire and unique parallelogram design resist torsional loading making it suitable for unconstrained single-point weighing. Its monolithic structure produces a stiff and responsive measurement system with very low deflection and no barometrically sensitive components. Sealed in a NEMA 4 / IP65 housing, the SFT III's low power requirement permits it to be made intrinsically safe and approved for ATEX Zones 0, 1, and 2 dust and gas environments.

With powerful on-board microprocessors each sensor is a fully digital, integrated intelligent weighing system. Both SFT II and III sensors provide internally linearized and temperature compensated weight updates 112 times per second for output weight resolutions of < 0.5 ppm in 80 ms via a serial communication channel. Unlike transducers requiring A/D conversion, the SFT II/III's continuous frequency measurement captures all dynamic weight data. An integrated, self-adapting low pass digital filter eliminates environment- and machine-induced vibration. Field calibration is never required.
