Details

During the fermentation process in Breweries, Wine making or Alcohol production there is a risk that the fermentation gets out of control, this can result in foam overflowing or getting into the CO2 vent.

By installing a tuningfork point level switch (Liquiphant) tuned for foam detection at the top of the fermenter, the foam is detected before it reaches critical point and control steps are taken to suppress foam and get fermentation back under control. User selected the tuning fork but a capacitance sensor based system would have worked also. Selection is purely by user preference.

Since installing the tuning forks there has been no further incident requiring clean-up. The plant had on average 1-2 incidents per year prior to installation, at a cost of minimum 1 day downtime and associated clean-up cost. The $700.00 switch paid for itself right away.
