Chooljian Brothers Packing Company (Chooljian), one of the oldest raisin processors in the country, sends its raisins through laser sorters and more cleaning stations, washing points and quality assurance checks than most other raisin processing facilities. Despite all the sterilization activity, Chooljian takes even greater steps to ensure that contaminants never reach customers. After the raisins are harvested, they are processed in the company's packing plant, where they go through numerous cleaning processes and then through metal detectors. The metal detectors help eliminate a lot of the foreign objects, but cannot detect everything. Chooljian wanted to add another layer of safety to its process.
