In the food processing industry, conductive sensors are used in simple level detection of liquid media in containers or pipelines. The probes are used for reporting FULL or EMPTY status of the container. To detect the marginal level of a medium, the electrical conductivity is determined between the probe rod and the container or wall of the pipeline. The typical length of such a probe is 200 mm.
Critical factors in a measurement of this type are the electrical isolation of the probe rod against the container wall in the penetration area of the process connection, a (hygienic) process connection without any dead space and a mechanically stable as well as electrically insulating coat over a large area of the probe rod surface. Especially with regard to the measurement, the coating provides a positive effect by ensuring that built-up deposits of a conductive medium in the area around the process connection cannot adversely affect the measurement.
